Serving Others

Sojourner Covenant Church is actively involved in serving our community and our world.  Below you will find an overview of our compassion, mercy, and justice ministries as well an introduction to one of our missionaries, Ben Wickstrom.

SOJO Compassion Mercy & Justice outreach

 Sunday Mornings

Throughout the year, Sojourner takes a moment as part of our Sunday morning worship to raise awareness and provide opportunities for advocacy regarding various justice issues impacting our brothers and sisters in the United States and around the world.

Serving and Giving

Sojourner also works to provide regular opportunities to serve through the giving of time and resources to those in need of justice and mercy within our own community.

July 2011

July 3-17:

Throughout the month of July 2011, Sojourner Covenant Church collected gift cards and money to support Anne's House, a shelter for young women in the Chicagoland area escaping from human trafficking.  Sojo raised over $1,000.  A portion of the gift cards will go directly to the young women who are often in need of clothing and other supplies.  The remainder will go towards refurbishing the basement of Anne's House into a recreation room for the young women providing them with a safe place to hang out, especially during the winter months.

MEXICO!

God calls all to his mission of justice, mercy and humbleness. The call comes in many different forms, requiring many different types of service throughout the world. Ben Wickstrom is excited to answer God’s call in his life. He has been accepted for service as a short-term missionary with Covenant World Missions, a part of the Evangelical Covenant Church. For one year, he will be serving in Oaxaca, Mexico, by partnering with Oaxaca Covenant Churches and with other missionaries and organizations.

At Sojourner, Ben have been involved with the worship team, the Children's Church, led a Young Adult Bible Study, helped with Cafe Sojourner, and is  part of the Current Pastoral Search Committee.
